I just bought a Ryzen 5 2600x, upgrading from a Ryzen 3. My motherboard is AB350M Gaming 3. I do not really know much about computers, not really sure what a BIOS update even means, but I was wondering if it is necessary in order to use my new processor, or can I just put it in without an update? What happens if I try to use is without updating?
You need to have an up-to-date BIOS on that board to support a Ryzen 2000 CPU. The motherboard manual will have instructions on how to complete the update, and the Gigabyte website will have the BIOS updates available for download.
You will need to keep the “old” CPU installed to complete the update before you can install the 2600X.
What happens if you try to use is without updating?
If you try to boot with the new CPU and a BIOS version that doesn’t support it, the system simply won’t boot.
