[Question] Is air cooling enough for Overclocking the CPU?

Hello members,

I will be getting an I5-8700K or an I7-8700K,and i am planing to overclock it to 4.5~5GHZ.

My question is, can an air cooler handle the heat???

Because my friends are all telling me to get a water cooler rather than an air cooler.

Air cooling is fine for moderate overclocks, but for those who want to push their chip to the brink of death just to get every last drop of performance, they’d go liquid cooling.

If you’re overclocking, a fairly large heatsink is preferable. Just don’t push too hard on the throttles.

Cheap aftermarket air coolers, like the CoolerMaster Hyper 212, can handle pretty big overclocks just fine. And other air coolers, like a Noctua NH-D15, can handle almost anything.
